Glacier collapse swallows a part of Swiss village

A Swiss mountain village has been buried in a deluge of ice, mud and rock, after an enormous chunk of the Birch glacier collapsed into the valley beneath.

The village of Blatten, which was evacuated of its roughly 300 residents a number of days in the past, was on Wednesday overwhelmed by 1000’s of tonnes of mud and ice.

International warming is inflicting glaciers to soften extra quickly. In the meantime, the permafrost – typically described because the glue that holds excessive mountains collectively – can also be thawing.

One individual has been reported lacking, and lots of houses have been flattened.
