Oscar-winning World Battle 2 ‘masterpiece’ is now streaming on Netflix | Movies | Leisure

As we speak marks the eightieth anniversary of the primary use of a nuclear weapon in conflict.

Throughout World Battle 2, US President Harry Truman ordered the detonation of an atomic bomb over the Japanese metropolis of Hiroshima and three days later, on Nagasaki.

The consequence was the deaths of between 150,000 to 246,000 individuals, principally civilians. The Japanese surrendered to the Allies six days after the latter bomb, which was the final time a nuclear weapon was utilized in a battle.

The atomic bombs have been produced in secret through the Manhattan Challenge, which was directed by nuclear physicist J Robert Oppenheimer.

After studying the 2005 biography American Prometheus, Sir Christopher Nolan tailored his life into the three-hour epic Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy within the titular position.

Hailed a “masterpiece” by The Telegraph, Oppenheimer went on to be nominated for 13 Oscars and received seven, together with Greatest Actor for Murphy and Greatest Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. Most notably, it was the primary time Nolan received an Academy Award, taking dwelling two for Greatest Image and Greatest Director.

Oppenheimer is now streaming on Netflix in 4K.
