French police arrest Russian basketball participant accused of ransomware: report

French authorities have arrested a Russian skilled basketball participant who’s accused of being a member of a ransomware gang, in keeping with newswire Agence France-Presse. 

Daniil Kasatkin performs for MBA Moscow, a workforce that’s a part of the VTB United League, which contains largely Russian golf equipment in addition to one workforce from Belarus and Kazakhstan. Kasatkin briefly performed for Penn State in the course of the 2018-2019 season. 

The AFP reported that U.S. authorities imagine Kasatkin moonlit as a ransomware hacker. Kasatkin was arrested at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on June 21.

Kasatkin’s lawyer Frederic Belot instructed the AFP that his shopper is harmless.

“He purchased a used laptop. He did completely nothing fallacious. He’s shocked,” Belot instructed AFP.

“He’s ineffective with computer systems. He can’t even set up an app. He didn’t contact something on this laptop. It was both hacked, or offered to him by a hacker who needed to cross himself off as another person.”
